Apollo Hospitals has always been very conscious about the impact of lifestyle choices on general health of citizens.
Specialized health checkups were created by Apollo Hospitals more than 30 years ago. Even the state of the art multi specialty Apollo Children’s Hospital that opened in 2009, has been involved in regular student health awareness and teacher training programs. Six years ago, looking at the decreasing ages for the incidences of NCDs like Heart Disease, Diabetes, Cancers… Apollo Hospitals decided to roll up its white coat sleeves once more and do something for the student community. Something that would be more effective. And something that would be in sync with the needs of present day parents, teachers and of course students.
The Goal: to make inroads into student psyche and impress upon them the importance of health, healthcare and the implications of lifestyle choices though an involved on-campus program. So while a popular saying goes: it takes a village to bring up a child; we at Apollo believe that sometimes it takes a child to save a village!
And thus Shine was born.

Today the Apollo SHINE Foundation is a not for profit initiative by the Apollo Hospitals groups that focuses on Campus Health across 100 campuses and covers close to two lakh students. With utmost care and sincerity.
Healthcare has been a neglected area on most campuses and in some cases where there is a provision, institutions have set up a home grown clinic.
- Healthcare has been a neglected area on most campuses and in some cases where there is a provision, institutions have set up a home grown clinic. While the intent is commendable, there is clearly a lacunae in quality of care and support available.
- Pediatric & adolescent care is mostly reactive. There is a clear need for proactive care and attention for this section of the community.
- Kids and young adults today need a credible source for their information. Internet diagnosis is a modern day curse.
- There are very few organizations that have the scale, infrastructure and expertise to touch lives in a 360degree manner in the country. Apollo Hospitals is one of them.
- Lifestyle diseases start early. Health Education must start even earlier.
- Students are the future of the world. How are we going to touch their lives?
Create student ambassadors of healthy living who will catalyze their families, friends, neighborhoods and then community.

- Implement a comprehensive program that will identify and treat common health problems at an early stage, as well as handle any medical emergencies that might arise in the student environment.
- Integrate disease prevention and basic medical education and awareness into the learning regimens at school and college levels.
- Create a reliable, healthcare touch-point for students to go to with their queries, concerns and insecurities.
- Get students comfortable using professional healthcare services rather than making uninformed decisions or, even worse, self medication.
- Identify safe healthcare partners for the community to associate with.
